Reimagining the museum visit
The RockX AR Museum App is an augmented reality application designed to enhance the visitor experience — letting people explore exhibits, learn rock music history, and engage with digital content in new, immersive ways.
Problem
No off-the-shelf software was available for managing the museum's digital presence that staff found acceptable. Without an intuitive map or clear direction, navigating the museum was confusing and frustrating for visitors.
Solution
A digital solution that enhances visitor experience and engagement — both remotely, while planning a visit, and in person, while exploring the exhibits.
The goal
Help visitors discover museums and exhibitions to increase engagement, and improve the ongoing relationship between museums and their visitors.
What visitors told us
70% of respondents also said they feel disconnected — museums don't have a good way to engage their audience and make them feel involved.

Simplifying the AR overlay
Replaced the live-streaming icon with a simpler video icon, and swapped the details panel for a single "i" icon showing just band details rather than everything at once. Added gift/merchandise, guitar, and artist icons that surface automatically based on the visitor's movement through the exhibit.
What went well, what I learned
What went well
Successful AR integration with positive user feedback, and real benefit from a collaborative approach with the museum team.
Learnings
As an aspiring product designer, this project taught me the fundamentals of collaborating across teams — and introduced me to the rich culture of rock and roll and what its audience expects from the genre.
